This Guidance Note provides guidance for investors and companies on the requirements contained in the IFC Performance Standards for issues linked to involuntary resettlement as part of project-related land acquisition. It offers guidance to minimise adverse impacts on displaced persons and host communities, and to improve the livelihoods of those affected by resettlement.

This guidance is primarily directed at Rainforest Alliance auditors and farm or group administrator representatives that follow the Rainforest Alliance criteria. It can also be used more broadly by companies who aim to follow the FPIC principles in their operations. It describes

• the cases where an FPIC process is required; and

• the steps required in the FPIC process, in cases where an FPIC process is necessary.

This document presents a set of guiding principles that promote to responsible contract farming operations. It is intended to serve as guidance for farmers and buyers engaged in contractual relationships, in order to promote good business practices and maintain an atmosphere of trust and respect that is essential if contract farming is to prove effective.

This guide provides information on how to engage in consultation following the FPIC principles with Indigenous Peoples and local communities before undertaking forestry management activities on the lands they legally or customarily own and/or use. It

• encourages and supports discussion among stakeholders, Indigenous Peoples, and FSC on the recognition of the right to FPIC, and

• provides a framework for the development of generally acceptable guidelines for companies seeking FPIC.

This guide proposes tools and approaches to improve forest tenure governance and practical actions to realise this objective. It is intended for government policy-makers, or other public sector, private sector or civil society stakeholders concerned with forest governance and tenure reform.

This document is intended to promote a disciplined approach to integrated closure planning and increase the uniformity of good practice across the sector. The concepts apply equally to both large and small mining companies.

It provides operational guidance for companies confronting “legacy land issues” and clarifies a company’s roles and responsibilities in dealing with legacy land issues in their existing holdings, while also providing direction on where to look for more detailed information and tools.

This primer includes an overview of valuation and compensation best practices that illustrates the relationship between valuation and compensation and other steps and elements of responsible investment. It describes how to develop and implement valuation and compensation practices that lead to fair and adequate compensation to the community and individual land users impacted or displaced by an investment. It is intendend for government agencies and private sector actors.

This note provides guidance for businesses to identify and address legacy land issues in agricultural investments.
